Bryan Beaver St. Clair: A Champion On and Off the Court

March 30, 20253 min read

Bryan Beaver St. Clair’s journey to becoming a two-time NAIA National Basketball Champion is nothing short of remarkable. His accomplishments on the court and in the classroom are a testament to his unwavering dedication and commitment to excellence. But what truly sets Bryan apart is his deep connection to his Native heritage and the rich legacy of his ancestors.

A Proud Native, born in Fort Defiance Indian Hospital in Fort Defiance, Arizona, Bryan moved to Wyoming at the age of five, where he was raised and shaped into the accomplished athlete he is today. He proudly represents his Shoshone, Navajo, Pawnee, and Cherokee heritage. His Indian name, Ashké Yił Ahool Nil—“Warrior Who Wrestled to Victory”—was given to him by his Navajo grandfather, Stanley Litson, at his first laugh dinner.

Bryan is enrolled in the Shoshone Tribe of Wyoming and is also a proud descendant of Principal Chief John Ross and Quattie Ross of the Cherokee Nation. His Cherokee roots run deep, as his grandfather, Flemen Nave, was born and raised in Hominy, Oklahoma, a descendant of the ᎠᏂᏥᏍᏆ Bird Clan. Bryan cherishes the memory of his Cherokee grandfather, who instilled in him the values of perseverance and pride.

A Stellar High School Career Bryan graduated from Lander Valley High School in 2021, where he left a lasting legacy. His accolades include being named 3A Basketball Player of the Year, All Fremont County Team Selection, 2020 and 2021 Wyoming 3A All-State, and the 2019 Wyoming 3A State Basketball Champion. In track and field, he finished second in the long jump and was part of the 2021 Wyoming State Track and Field Championship team.

College Achievements and National Glory Recruited to the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, Bryan balanced both academics and athletics, playing basketball while also competing in long and high jump for the track team. As a member of the NAIA, he qualified for Conference in the Long Jump each year. In basketball, his senior class boasts an impressive record of 136-12 overall and 82-4 in conference play. The Yotes were crowned NAIA National Champions in both 2023 and 2025, secured four Regular Season Championships, and won two Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships. In addition to his athletic success, Bryan’s commitment to academics earned him a place on the Dean’s List in his final two semesters.

Looking Ahead Bryan will graduate this May from the College of Idaho with a degree in Psychology and plans to pursue his master’s degree. His parents, Darwin St. Clair, Jr., and Viola Nave-St. Clair, couldn’t be prouder of their son, whose hard work and dedication have propelled him to new heights both on and off the court.

Reflecting on his journey, Viola shared, “It is an amazing feat to win one National Championship, but to finish college as a two-time National Champion is pretty awesome. We are incredibly proud of Bryan. He works very hard for all he accomplishes.”

Representing His Heritage Bryan honors his family’s legacy by staying connected to his roots and representing his people with pride. His extended family across Oklahoma, including the Naves, Praters, Govers, Pratts, and Sloans, celebrate his achievements and the way he upholds the spirit of their ancestors.

Bryan Beaver St. Clair’s story is one of perseverance, dedication, and cultural pride. As he moves forward into the next chapter of his life, he continues to inspire those around him—both as a champion athlete and as a proud representative of his heritage.
