TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —

The Cherokee Nation has an annual economic impact of more than $3.1 billion on the Oklahoma economy, according to a new independent report released this month by the tribe.

The report, conducted by economic analysts, shows the tribe supports more than 23,000 jobs statewide through its government operations, health system, businesses, and subsidiaries. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. called the findings a reflection of the tribe’s enduring commitment to its citizens and to the communities in which they live.

“Our investments in health care, education, job creation and infrastructure are not just helping Cherokee families—they’re fueling regional economies throughout the state,” Hoskin said in a statement.

The report details contributions from the Cherokee Nation government, Cherokee Nation Businesses, and Cherokee Nation Health Services. Key areas of economic impact include payroll, construction, education programs, and public services.

Cherokee Nation operates the largest tribal health system in the United States and administers services to over 450,000 citizens. The tribe also oversees multiple educational and workforce training initiatives, along with a growing portfolio of tribal enterprises in industries ranging from hospitality to defense contracting.

Officials said the report underscores the role of tribal governments as economic engines—not only for Native communities but for the broader state economy.

“This analysis affirms that tribal nations are not only cultural and sovereign institutions, but also powerful contributors to the economic stability and growth of the state of Oklahoma,” Hoskin said.

The report is the latest in a series of economic assessments conducted periodically to measure the tribe’s footprint across its 14-county reservation area.
