Letters To The Editor

Your Voice. Your Community. Your Cherokee 411.

Cherokee 411 exists because Cherokee voices matter — and that includes yours.

We welcome Letters to the Editor from citizens of all three federally recognized Cherokee Nations: the Cherokee Nation (CN), the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), and the United Keetoowah Band (UKB). If something is affecting your community, your family, or your Nation, we want to hear from you.

What to Write About

Your letter might speak to:

  • Decisions or policies coming out of your tribal government
  • Issues affecting Cherokee families, elders, or youth
  • Economic development and what it means for your community
  • Cultural preservation, language, and identity
  • Healthcare, housing, education, or other services impacting Cherokee citizens
  • Anything else you believe your fellow Cherokee citizens need to know

There is no wrong topic if it matters to Cherokee people.

Submission Guidelines

To help us publish your letter promptly, please keep the following in mind:

  • Who can submit: Citizens of the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, or United Keetoowah Band. Please indicate your Tribal Citizenship and Nation in your submission.
  • Length: 150–500 words. We may lightly edit for length and clarity, but your voice will remain your own.
  • Your name: Letters are published with the author’s name, City, State, and Tribal Citizenship. Anonymous submissions are not accepted.
  • One letter at a time: Please allow 15 days between submissions.
  • Respectful tone: We welcome strong opinions and honest disagreement. Personal attacks, hate speech, or unverified accusations against private individuals will not be published.
  • Accuracy: You are responsible for the facts in your letter. We encourage you to include sources where applicable.

Cherokee 411 reserves the right to decline letters that do not meet our standards, but we will never decline a letter simply because it challenges those in power. That is the point.

A Note on Independence

Cherokee 411 is an independent Cherokee media network. We answer to our community — not to outside interests, politics, or politicians. Letters to the Editor reflect the views of the individual author and not the editorial position of Cherokee 411.

We publish Letters to the Editor because democracy in Indian Country depends on informed, engaged citizens who are willing to speak up. We are honored to be the platform where that happens.

I-di-tsa-la-gi — ᎢᏗᏣᎳᎩ — We are Cherokee. This is our community. Speak up.
