Calling all Indian taco makers!
The National Indian Taco Championship is returning to historic downtown Pawhuska on Oct. 3 — and there are only 20 spots available for contestants.
The public can also sample the competition and help choose the People’s Choice winner.
Contestant registration is live for the Oct. 3 event, with spots limited to the first 20 entries. The competition begins at 10 a.m., with contestants serving their Indian tacos and competing for the title of National Indian Taco Champion. Winners are expected to be announced around 4 p.m.
How attendees can judge the tacos
Visitors can purchase tacos directly from contestants or take part in two judging opportunities:
- Preliminary Round Judging: For $10, attendees can sample tacos during either the first or second round. Sign-ups begin at 10 a.m.
- People’s Choice Judging: For $5, attendees can sample tacos throughout the event and vote for their favorite. Voting closes at 2 p.m.

Contestants are currently being accepted, but organizers say this year’s competition is limited to 20 participants.
