Sheryl Lynn (McMahan) Thompson was born October 3, 1971 in Muskogee, OK, the daughter of Gene Edward and Joyce Kay (Barnes) McMahan. She grew up in a loving family alongside her one brother, David, and was proudly known as her daddy’s girl.
Sheryl was a graduate of Hulbert High School and later completed courses at Northeastern State University. For 33 years, Sheryl dedicated herself to serving others through the Cherokee Nation Early Childhood Unit, where she worked in Manager, Administrative Operations. Her commitment to her work and the people she served was an important part of who she was. Sheryl continued to be a lifelong supporter of Hulbert Riders sports and could often be found in the stands cheering them on. She loved attending ballgames whenever she could and enjoyed being part of the community she called home.
On August 8, 2009, she married the love of her life, Levi, at her family home in Hulbert and has shared 16 wonderful years together. Family meant everything to Sheryl and she treasured the memories they made together. One of Sheryl’s greatest joys was traveling. Her favorite destination was Branson, Missouri, which she affectionately called her “happy place.” She loved browsing the antique malls, visiting Silver Dollar City, and experiencing its many festivals. She especially enjoyed the Fourth of July fireworks and the beautiful Christmas lights. Sheryl also loved attending concerts, with Chris Young being her favorite. She was the life of the party and ready to pick up a microphone for a little karaoke. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life—garage sales, craft fairs, playing Farkle, and spending time with family and friends. Sheryl passed from this life on September 11, 2026, at the age of 54 years old. Her laughter, generous spirit, and ability to make ordinary moments memorable will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
