Lillie “Maxine” Lynch passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026, in Pryor, Oklahoma, at the remarkable age of 103. Born and raised in Chouteau, Oklahoma, Maxine lived a long and fulfilling life marked by hard work, independence, and a deep pride in her Cherokee heritage.
Shortly after graduating, Maxine moved to California, where she became part of the World War II home-front workforce. During the war, she worked as a welder in the shipyards of Richmond, California, contributing her skills and determination during an important time in our nation’s history.
While in California, Maxine met Edward Lynch, and the two were married on September 23, 1945. They later made their home in Buena Park, California. Maxine began working for Knott’s Berry Farm, where she spent 21 years as a gift buyer. Her career there became an important chapter in her life and reflected her strong work ethic and independent spirit.
After many years in California, Maxine returned home to Oklahoma, where she enjoyed the years that followed surrounded by family and the familiar places of her upbringing. She was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and held her Cherokee heritage close to her heart throughout her life.
Reaching the extraordinary age of 103, Maxine witnessed more than a century of history and change. Her life spanned generations, and the stories, experiences, and memories she leaves behind will remain a treasured part of her family’s history.
